Poems: Algal Bloom & Stitches

I find algae overgrowing in a park pond to be strangely beautiful – the swirls and bright green color, the way it creeps and overwhelms the life beneath. That metaphor of overgrowth and stillness, a sort of suffocation and transformation, animates my poem “Algal Bloom,” which appears in Stone Poetry Quarterly this month. That and another poem, “Stitches,” are from my poetry manuscript “In the Salt” which has been a finalist for several small press awards. The collection explores the mutations of motherhood and parenting a sick child. Read the poems here.
