This story is close to my heart. A few years ago I stumbled on a pagan solstice ritual, and I’ve been delighted and intrigued by modern Druid practice ever since. I’ve spoken to a number of pagans, interviewed religion scholars, and tried to figure out what makes Druidry a uniquely modern American religion. I braided my own (lack of) religious upbringing into this longform essay, which I hope does justice to the funny and interesting people I interviewed.
