You know that feeling of losing control—whether it’s watching something bad happen to someone you love, or watching your country slide into its worst authoritarian impulses? I wanted to write about that feeling, that helpless stuck feeling, when you have to let go.
In my essay “Inside the Whale,” I wrote about George Orwell, Finding Nemo, and the terrifying anxieties of motherhood. I wrote about this political moment in America, bear scat, school shooting, and werewolves. The result is up at Pacifica Literary Review and I hope you read it: Inside the Whale.
